A Milestone

Undoubtedly, the creation of the first professional track and field club in the Republic during the second half of the year 2017 is one of the key elements for the development of track and field sport under the leadership of the Athletics Federation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In future, we would like to establish several clubs all over the country and to have the opportunity to organize an internal national Championship among the clubs, as it is practiced mainly in European countries.

At the initial stage of the Club's activities, we need experience and assistance from individuals and organizations, for the simple reason that we plan to be represented around the globe in high level competitions and meetings.   In this regard, with the support of the Federation, we signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the VfG/LCZ - a Club with a long lasting, successful history. It is exactly the model that we will try to copy to create professional structures for athletes, coaches and officials .  For this reason the experienced Swiss sports official Guido Tognoni (former Fifa, Uefa, NHL) was engaged as General Manager. Carrying out our international work on a daily basis with the General Manager and other partners of the Club, our office will take profit from the experience and adapt implement step by step the infrastructure for the growth of track and field in the Club and all over the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Already the first few months of our activities in 2017 were very promising.  With the support of our partners we were able to show more than only remarkable international results, but most importantly, we as a Club are getting international awareness and recognition in Europe, Africa and overseas.

In this year, we plan to increase the number of Kazakhstan athletes in the Club and we launch children's and youth  programs to scout for of more talents.

Having said this, I would like to underline that all people involved are grateful for the leadership and the support of the East Kazakhstan region and the personal engagement of the Akim, who not only provides full moral and financial assistance, but  also had the vision  to create a powerful, modern Club of the international standards.

The Altay Club has the following main goals:

1. Creation of good training opportunities for the elite athletes of the country including their preparation for the National Team of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
2. Increasing the participation of Kazakhstan athletes in international IAAF competitions.
3. Popularization of track and field in the country, to increase the number of children and parents engaged in this sport.
4. Promotion of the image of Kazakhstan athletics abroad and in general promotion of Kazakhstan through international track and field starts.
5. Educating of coaches for all levels and increasing the coaching staff in the Republic.

I am very optimistic that together we can achieve all these goals!
